Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made the difference. (Robert Frost – The road not taken)

About Us

Welcome!

Walking Catalonia is an umbrella for like-minded organisations whose aims all more or less coincide: to stimulate more people to go walking in Catalonia by providing better quality guiding (and other) services and route descriptions.

WC (as it is affectionately known) is the brainchild of Mike Lockwood, British by birth but professionally and emotionally employed in activities that know in fact no frontiers at all: writing, wildlife, walking and guiding. Find out more about Mike at www.iberianwildlife.com

Mike and all the entities that make up WC are fully committed to supporting ITINERÀNNIA, the network of signposted footpaths that is being set up region at the moment that will link the Mediterranean Sea to the alpine valleys of Núria in El Ripollès. Indeed, Mike and his colleagues have trailblazed all of the paths of this network in La Garrotxa and L'Alta Empordà - 1700 km in all - and know its ins and outs like no one else.

Walking Catalonia has its heart in La Garrotxa and its volcanoes, mule trails and smuggler's paths: a firm belief in the importance of sustainable, high-quality tourism (as well as a smidgeon of local chauvinism) makes us want to share the paths we love with visitors from afar.

We believe that sustainable tourism, using high-quality local services, is the best way of preserving the wonderful cultural landscape that this part of the Pyrenees still retains. We offer a guiding service to visitors and a 'tailor-made' walking consultancy service for those who need help in planning their trips.

Bonne route!
